also, after this incident and the stress of wondering if 3000 bucks just burned up, if shown she will probably remember to check the new gauge when towing, especially if its on the pillar or steering column... as an alternate, Autometer makes some gauges that have built in light and option to wire to buzzer for when it hits a programmable maximum... just my .50 cents (.02 plus this months inflation )

same problem in stone mountain GA.
I had the same problem pulling my 5th wheel to Stone Mtn. GA. I made it all the way the campground, then the front seal ruptured. The Ford dealership charged me 800.00 to replace seal. It seamed to be fine most of the way home. Then the 4x4 light flashed off and on like a short. I pulled off and I was in 4wheel drive. now it won't come out. I need advice. A friend said to get tranny cooler and new pan. I need to know anymore advice.

Check the connectors around the t-case. I had a similar issue only to find out the connections were loose. Pushed them together to make them "snap" back together, been good-2-go ever since. Hope it helps. |

Just one other possibility....AfterI had my transmission done I had a similar problem. After the new trans and cooler normally my trans temp would never get over about 140 or 150. Well, I was in a small group of fellow PSD's running late to a NHRDA event and was running about 100mph down the interstate. Stopped at a gas station and noticed fluid pouring out of the transmission and dripping off the rear end etc. One of my buddies commented that he was wondering what was all over his windshield...lol. Anyway, long story short, it was leaking from the dipstick tube at the transmission. With the deep pan and an apparently over full transmission when it heated up it expanded enough to be above where the dipstick went in. (At least I assume that was what happened). It only did it once more after that (When the trans was up around 160 and it hasn't done it since. (More than 2 years have gone by with no other problems) Transmission still hasn't seen over 160, but I suspect if it ever got to 200 it would be leaking again. Just another idea to ponder if it all seems good after a refill. -Aaron |

What about a 12v fan that goes on a race car ontop of the trans cooler. I wouldnt say this to fix the problem but if you get the seal fixed then did that would it help?
