Temps

Mechanics where I live tell me that temps at 215 to 220 are ok. When you get to 240 is when you need to be concerned. All while towing of course. There seems to be quite a wide opinion at what temps are ok?

You honestly saw these kind of drops? Mine has stock 01 trans cooler and with the warmer weather it pops up into the 150-160 degree mark when mobbin round town. I'd like it to stay bone cold.

I'd like to go with the bigger 6.0 cooler but I've been told that it would be bad in the winter because the weather is very cold here. Oh well, not very often I see 215. Only when pulling hard and usually not for very long. My trailer's not too heavy and 195 to 200 is about as hot as it gets so I'll just have to live with the stock cooler.

well i'm not too concered with that because i'm farther South than you are, plus if it was a problem with getting too cold on them, then i'm sure it would be a regular problem with them in the northern states and in Canada, but i've never heard of any

There are others more knowledgeable on here than me, but I was under the impression Ford considers 242 high. Temps of 200-220 are fine for our trans.

Personally, I have not seen a temp of over 190 or so on a 96 degree day with my truck.

I would suggest calling John Woods or BTS and ask them what they consider "high" operating temperatures.

hank, if the trans puked , wether it be out the vent or out the front pump seal which the 4r100 are known to do , get it back to the trans shop and let them look at it , those temps arent excessive high , but i am curious if you say fluid level is ok, then it may have been overfull and when fluid expanded it puked out the vent
