Unhappy Should I be losing sleep over this?

So my truck is a 2000 ford f250 psd auto 4X4. I bought it with 47000 on the clock and I kno for a fact a older gentelmen owned it before me. My problem is EVERYWHERE I look I see nothing but BAD things about the tranny! When I picked up the truck it had clean tranny fluid.....not brand new pink...but red and not burnt. (im a mechanic so I know burnt fluid) I flushed it @ 50,000 and now its @ 57,000 with very clean fluid and NO problems! I tow my 2300lbs car on a little car dolly mabey 1 time a month and thats about the most weight it sees. This truck is always driven nicley! Should I be worried about the tranny just one day "goin south" or is it gonna survive the easy life? PLEASE cheer me up! I dont even want to chip it in fear of the tranny givin me problems I can't afford.

if you take care of it it will last a long long time.
it is one thing that people say, they have weak trannys. but it comes down to how you treat it and take care of it, just like anything else.

Just remember as others will say, these trucks ARE meant to be used! 96k here, stock tranny!

To put your mind at ease you might want to get a tranny temp gauge since they say heat is the devil when it comes to the tranny.

I have 212,000 on my 2000 F-350 and no problems with the tranny. I service it every 30,000 miles religiousily and regularly tow my 33 foot travel trailer and my 35 foot gooseneck loaded with as much as 20,000 lbs on it. Has always performed flawlessly. And this is with the low setting on a SuperChips programmer.

I agree. I have 192,000 miles on my work truck. 2000 7.3 F250 with the E40D Auto. I frequently pull a 20' gooseneck with as much as 15K on it. Even pull it in OD. The only problem I've had with this on was the actual o/d button on the shift lever went bad. I use and abuse it and haven't had a problem with it yet.

You have the E40D. They have been in the trucks since atleast '92 and didn't change till '03 when they came out with the 5 speed auto behind the 6.0's

Tranny

The E40d and the 4R100 are the same thing. Just talked with my Ford engineers yesterday and we were talking about my stock tranny with a 125hp chip thats on it and he said don't worry about it. Get a tranny temp gauge and flush it every 30,000 miles. One thing he did reccomend to make it bullet proof is to upgrade to a 6.0 tranny cooler. I have one just not in yet.

About how much would I expect to spend on a temp gauge? Would like to get one soon. How hard are they to install on these trucks?
