Linkage???

Heres the deal, When I go to select a gear it is almost like the linkage doesnt tell the tranny to go. Especially if I am in reverse and switch to drive it take FOREVER to go. Sometimes it takes me sitting still and switching through the gears to get it to send a signal. Any ideas?

Is your linkage sloppy, loose? Fluid level low?
Set park brake, put linkage in neutral, turn your body upside down with your head under the dash looking up. Reach up and wiggle the shifter. There is a shaft with a lever bolted to it. Those bolts get loose. If the shaft is wiggling side to side, the steering column has to come out and dissassembled to replace 2 parts. Not an easy job.

Yes the linkage (shifter) is really sloppy. But i checked the two bolts of the underside and they are tight. But the lag is getting really bad...It now sometimes wont even go into drive at all. A couple of time I have had to drop it all the way down into first to get it rolling. Any other ideas??? Bad sensor maybe?

Sure enough, I took it to the local trans guy and he said it isnt electrical or linkage. Needs to be rebuilt! Oh Boy, he also said I need a new TPS. I know this isnt the section it should be asked but I have been looking on the net for a new sensor and can only find them for gas motors. Maybe I am not lookin hard enough but can someone throw me a hint to where I can find one. Please.

That's because your truck does not have one. It's now called "Accellerator Pressure Position Switch". It's the whole pedal assy you put your foot on. Dealer item only and over $100. But, I dought you need one.
Did he put a scanner on it and read the voltage??

Yes he hooked his comp up to it and he said it was only reading 1 ohm and that i would soon be in need of one. So I figured I might as well replace it. Not to bash your thoughts but what makes you think I wouldnt need it? Just curious.

Never seen one bad.
Scanner does not read ohms. It reads volts. Should be approximatly .5 to .6 at idle and go up smoothly from there.
