O/D light flashing and funney shifting tranny
Well, i went for a drive around the block in my 2001 F350.
Going up a street the o/d light started to flash, I slowed down to stop, but the transmission felt like it wanted to keep driving, it didn't seem to want to disengage, so I coasted up the street, and the o/d light stopped flashing, and the tranny allowed me to stop. Driving home it seemed to shift OK, but my imagination is telling me the truck feels a little rough thru the floor, i'e a vibration. Typically when the truck is cold it's very reluctant to shift up a gear. If it's revving 2000+, and i take my foot off the pedal the revs will drop, and when I press the pedal gently the revs will rise to 2000+, in otherwards it doesn't want to upshift at low rpms on light throttle. After a mile or two it will shift OK and hold a gear at lower rpm's (I may not be describing that very well) The other part that's funny is that if I'm coasting down a hill in Overdrive, the engine revs will drop down to 600rpm, I can only get engine breaking with overdrive disengaged, or when I'm in a lower gear. I'm not sure if it's supposed to do that (my GMC 1500 doesn't do that!) I've had the truck for 2 weeks, it has 146k miles, and has been very well looked after and is in mint condition. Maybe i've just found out why the guy wanted to sell the truck. Thanks in advance for any help Dave 2001 F350 auto ts 6 position chip AFE cold air intake 4 in pro-comp lift |

What year and trans, 4 or 5 speed? Sounds from the cold shifting and mileage it needs a flush and filter. The not wanting to stop sounds like the converter lock up sticking which could also be from crap in the fluid sticking the valve. I would start with pulling the codes and a service unless the codes show something counter indicating, meaning it would just waste the new fluid. The lack of engine braking is normal when driving in OD, it should brake like your Chevy when you cancel OD. I hate the lack of engine braking but both my Fords do it and always have, one is a 95 e4od 4 speed and the other is a 01 EX with the 5 speed. |

the lack of engine bracking in OD to me is a major PITA, around here there's some long hills I coast down, and having to shift out of OD to get engine braking is a pain. Dave |
