truck no go...

Yesterday I was backing my work truck (2002 F350 w/ utility box, weights about 10,000 ib) up with a little light plant up in sand. I started to kinda get stuck so i put it in 4x4 and began backing again. It was moving and i started bouncing a little. I was at about 2000 rpm. I let completely off the throttle and the turbo fluttered really bad and it died. It started back up.. it did these twice. I got out locked the hubs in and put the truck in neutral and let the 4x4 engage. and started to back up again and i gassed it and felt it lock in and then it wouldnt move. pulled it out and nothing will not go anywhere now. I unlocked the hubs put it in 2 hi and still nothing. I can hear it engage 4 wheel drive and when i put it in gear the rpms fluctuate like normal like its in gear but then i hit the throttle and it just revs. Torque converter?? pulled the dipstick and it doesn't smelt burnt and there is no metal partials on the stick and i got underneath and no oil leaking etc. I dont know what it is. My dad said it was idling for a few minutes the other day and it just died. Anyone experienced this? I guess if its a tranny hopefully he will put a bts in it
