Help over heating problem.

The other day I over heated my trans. It is a 2000 excursion 7.3 4r100. I was towing a 20 foot trailer and my trans started puking fluid out of the front seal. I noticed that it started to slip a little before I noticed the fluid leak. I let it sit a couple of days while I finished my trip. When I got back to it I filled it up with fluid and it drove just fine for about 15 or 20 minutes, but then I noticed the rpms start to jump around in 4th and overdrive. I changed the fluid and still the same thing. It will work flawlessly when it is cold but after about 15 or 20 minutes of driving it starts to act funny. Do you think I did permanent damadge?
