tc chatter/rattle

hello everyone I seem to be encountering a problem thatnot many people have encountered. so any suggestions or addvice would be welcome!

ok first off there is a very loud chatter/rattle that comes from under my rig (1999 f250 birth date 10/98) i was wondering if anyone could explain why and what the noise is. i think i may have narrowed the location of the noise down to the torque converter (I took a screw driver and used it as a stethiscope, put the handle up to my ear and listen to the tc dust plate and the noise seems to be comming form it.) any suggestions on how to tix the noise i am moving to an area with noise ordinance and also the noise is loud and annoying. I would love it if i would be able to hear the purr of the diesel and not the tc or what ever it is. ive had the truck for a year and it has done it since i bought it. thanks all and dont forget to reply plz

i got to thinking a bit ( i know its scary) and could it be that your torque converter is rubbing on something...such as the bellhousing...mabe you got a rock jammed up in there or mabe the flexplate to Torque Converter bolts are trying to back out and you are hearing the two clank together...i guess you are gonna have to try and get that bolt that you couldn't get out, out and see if there is something going on with it.

TC rattle

Its actually pretty common for your year model. I have seen many do that. I just replaced one last week that needed a pump also due to the rubbing or the TC on the pump shaft.

i agree, seen it a couple of times. the lock up plate in the converter gets loose in the tabs it rides in. at idle it bangs back and forth and creates the noise you are hearing. i have also seen the flywheels crack more than once. the psd i just bought is doing it also. mine goes away when the converter locks up. if the noise goes away slightly off idle than i would check the flywheel for sure.
