2001 f350 7.3 deisel trans O/D lite flashes

alright looked thru the threads cant seem to find what it going on with my truck, so here is my problem. I have 2001 f350 lariat with an automatic trans. when i haul a load in the truck or pull a trailer it some times will stop moving (like the trans is slipping) and the overdrive light flashes. It will not go anywhere when this happens. if i turn the truck off and restart it, it goes away. i have checked all fluids everything looks good. any ideas?

The only thing that would help you figure your problem out is by putting your truck on a GOOD code reader like the "Auto Enginuity" and see what codes your tranny is throwing. Do this while the O/D light is flashing. The code readers that advance and auto zone have will not read transmission DTC's on our trucks. Another option, and I have done this, go to your Ford dealer of choice and throw one of the techs a couple bucks or some beer to read the codes with one of their computers. This is pretty much the only way to really point you in the right direction instead of just throwing parts at it. Report back with what you got!!

I agree about getting a decent scan. A Snap-On Solus can pull up the transmission and read codes/data to furthur analyze the problem. Could be a handful of things.

when mine did it i drove it to a tranny shop..
they hooked it up to there computer and drove it.
It was something like the 1-2 shift sensor or solenoid out and a few other things..
long story short... tranny was done..

I didn't even make it home lol. Went to pull out of a redlight and truck didn't go anywhere lol. Looked underneth and all my tranny fluid is laying on the ground. I guess it blew its gasket where the pan meets the tranny.

edit- got my dad to come out to my truck where I broke down. Added 6 quarts of ATF to it and made it home. Shifted fine during the time I was headed home. Checking it out tomorrow and going to start pulling it out.
