Truck dies

So i am driving today doing 60 and it felt like the truck just shut off and came back on in like a second.... This is the second time this has happened the last time was about 500 miles ago i was doing 65 on cruise and the rpm gauge went crazy and it felt like it shut off and came back on.... No codes or check engine light or nothing....

RPMs going crazy? Almost sounds like your CPS is on it's way out. I'm not 100% sure about it, but 9/10 times if the trucks cutting in & out & the tach goes crazy, it's usually a CPS.

The CPS is located near your crank pulley to the left(if you're looking @ the engine from the front). It has (1)10mm bolt holding it in & a wiring harness connected to it. The CPS will have a nickel plated pointer on it, so you can't miss it. Now here's the wrinkle: The most easily available CPSs are the crap ones from IH & Ford(they're made in Mexico). They run for about $18-$25. Autozone & NAPA also sell their rendition of one, but I don't know how much they cost. If you can get your hands on a black IH(Part#: 1821720C99 made in USA), that would be optimum, but they're REALLY hard to find. Another option you have is to check out dfuser.com's blue IH CPS, but that one's $135. If you go with the grey Ford or IH CPS(Part#: 1876735C91) buy another one for a spare. Hang on, I'll post a pic of what the CPS looks like.

Yes, but if the recall's already been done, the record of it being done will be stored in Fords network. It's worth a shot going to see if it has or hasn't been done. I'm pretty sure the CPS is your problem.

yeah you should be able to still get the recall done. If not the sensor is only 30 bucks from napa.

AS Radar said it is located on the passenger side of the block just above the balancer

yes the recall can still be given to you i was the 3rd owner on my truck and they still did it and it has to be done at a ford dealer so they will have record of it being done and if it has been done and is still acting up then u should get another one under warrenty i would think
