alternator problems

I now have 70,000 on my truck and I am putting in my fourth alternator. The first two were motorcraft from ford that never through a battery light when they quit. The first one went at 20,000. The third was an auto zone reman with a lifetime warrenty. I put that one in in the begining of Feb. 09. That one just went up in smoke. Literally. This one also throught the battery light on. I just picked up my fourth reman for the truck and did not have a chance to install yet. I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this.

I put 2 on for a total of 3 including original, on my 2000 in 160k. I think the first went at about 90k.

i had a slew of battery/alternator problems
i think there are just ghosts in the electrical that work their way out then it's all over with
but i had two or three alternators go out along with two sets of batteries back and forth until it finally got fixed. maybe replacing batteries and alternator all at once might keep if from happening?

Make sure your batteries are in good condition and fully charged when you install the alt. Seems like you are going through alot of them.
Do you have alot of accessories that use power?

Begining of Feb. I replaced both batteries and the alternator. No I don't have alot of things to draw off the alternator. This is just seeming to get out of control after the last one went up in smoke in bumper to bumper traffic. I thought the truck was going to go up in flames the way it smelt.
