running rough

i installed a superchips 1705 on my grandpas 7.3 e350 van. after the install it started running rough like it had a miss fire and blows bluish smoke. i returned it to stock and it still runs like it misses. could this be the idm? if so, why would it go bad after installing the superchips?

fyi the van has 300k miles and its a 01 or 02. please help. thanks

actually i had this happen to a truck i was pulling codes on. just freak timing, as i was pulling codes the valve cover wireing harness melted. could be something a simple as a CPS, fuelfilter, etc... just prop a freak issue and nothing to do with the superchips.

is it usually the passenger side valve cover?

well we pulled the passenger side valve cover and the harness came disconnected

put it back together and it ran ok than back to missing again. that was in the performance mode. we set it down to performance tow and it did it twice than quit doing it. its running fine now but why does it run bad in performance mode? its like its starving for fuel or something. i looked underneath and dont see the hpop. where are they located on e350 vans with the 7.3
