Smoking at start up (not 6.0)
So since i bought my truck a couple months ago it has been smoking whitish almost blue for the first 10 or 15 seconds on a cold start. If its warm out it still smokes but not nearly as much but it still smokes. If i plug in the block heater it doesnt smoke at all. But im tired of taking crap from my buddy and his cummins for plugging my truck in while its 50+ degrees out. I think he's just jealous, but either way. What do you guys think the problem is?
I saw that this case on a 6.0 could be injectors or egr, but i dont have that egr issue like the 6.0's. so im thinking injectors. Thanks for the help in advance. Last edited by boschert_72; 04-29-2009 at 11:22 AM. Reason: spelling |

Mine does this as well and never had a problem just the fuel getting heated up before it burns clean or at least this makes sense to me?

Its probably just normal cold diesel engine startup. Mine does it too. The warmer it is the less it smokes. Its just because the cylinder temps aren't quite high enough to completely burn all the fuel so it smokes. If it is excessive you can run a compression test and see what it reads.
