Newbie ?'s

I recently aquired a 02 excursion with the 7.3 it hasn't run in some time as it was rolled back in late 2003 the truck only has 25,000 miles on it and I'm trying to get it running again. So far I have changed the oil and filter, pumped out the fuel tank and replaced it with new fuel and a new fuel filter. engine cranks just fine but won't fire I keep hearing about the HPOP res level. How and where do I check this? Also any other tips would be appreciated. Sorry this is so long.

Your HPOP res is right underneath your POWERSTROKE plastic cover over your fuel bowl. It's 2 13mm cap nuts that hold it on. Take it off & you'll see the res in front of you. There's a small allen bolt(I think it's 5/16). Take that out & shine a flashlight into it. You're HPOP res is actually sourced by your engine oil. If your oil's up to snuff, your HPOP should be too unless it's leaking bad. If you can see the oil almost to the top(about 1/16"-1/8"), don't bother filling it, it'll just drain back to your oil pan & your level would be over. Have you tried replacing the Cam Position Module(CPM)? These are very likely to be your problem if you haven't had the recall done. Also: can you get your hands on a scan tool?

Where is the CPM located? Yeah I can get a scan tool tomorrow

Your CPM is located on the pass side of your crank pulley. Unplug the wiring harness & remove the 10mm bolt. You might have to play with it to work it out, but it shouldn't be a problem. A new CPM from either Ford or IH should be between $18-$24. If your truck has low miles & hasn't seen much road time, I'm almost willing to bet this is your problem. When you get the scan tool, see if you get codes from Key On, Engine Off(KOEO) & if the scan tool has functional test capabilities, try a buzz test to see if you get any IDM codes.
