Whirring noise at 50 mph?

When my truck shifts into overdrive, I hear a slight whirring sound coming from the engine compartment. I can only compare it to the sound of under inflated tires (A low, hum sort of whirring noise).

I'm not sure what to make of it, has anyone had a similar issue?

Truck is a 2002 F350 CC LB PSD, 94,000 miles.

give us a little more info? are you giving it throttle when it does this? does the sound remain constant once it starts? does it do it if you turn off the overdrive and drive above 50 mph? have you checked your tires for good inflation and wear?

Yes, the noise occurs only when giving the truck throttle. The loudness of the sound seems to increase with the more throttle I give. It's fairly faint with only a little throttle, but it's noticeable while giving it medium to heavy throttle. It only seems to occur in the 48-50 MPH range.

If I release the throttle and just coast, the sound is not present.

I did not get a chance to check and see if it occurs if I turn off overdrive, will do tomorrow.

My front tires are both inflated to ~65 PSI (Checked last week). They're Kumho AT's. I will need to replace them in the next few months, but they're still in decent shape.

Thank you for your help!

I have the same issue and am looking for an answer to this also. my truck has 68,000 and it makes the noise only in overdrive from 40 to around 50 mph while on the throttle in overdrive. If i let off the throttle it stops also.

Any ideas anyone?
