Exhaust Manifold Bolt Sheared!
Has anyone had one of their manifold bolt shear off? I heard the dreaded tick, tick, tick and thought it was the up pipe doughnut. After looking at the up pipes, I didn't see any soot that you would expect. Instead, I found soot on the manifold. I thought I just needed to tighten the bolts and discovered one was gone.
How difficult is it to remove the stud from the block? This may be one of the things I pay someone to do as I'm not sure how hard it is. Also the stud is below the hole so I can't get anything on it. I'm not sure what would cause the bolt to shear because it happened while I was driving. Thanks everyone. |

Suprised no one chimed in on this. I'm looking at a truck that's a great deal, aside from the fact one of the exhaust manifold bolts sheared off. I've read this can be due to excessive EGT temps at some point causing expansion of the metal.
Anyone else able to attest to the severity of this problem? Can it just be replaced and forgotten or does this speak to another underlying problem? |
