staggers under load

greetings all! am having a strange issue. at highway speed (usually while pulling a long hill or passing) the pig staggers (temp loss of rpms and boost-split second duration- almost like the alternator or ac compressor is coming on) this is quite random, somedays more than others. just wondering if this is common or if something is starting to go bad? i usually drive with the chip on the higher settings (80 -120 hp). i have a six speed manual and this happens with the cruise control on. any feed back is appreciated and thanx in advance

It sounds like it's fuel related. Have you tried pulling any codes or performing a contrib test? I'd start here just to see if you can get any feedback.

was afraid that might be the problem am saving pennies for the diagnostic software. for what it's worth i took a little road trip this weekend and tried different settings on the chip with the cruise on and off. it does it on every setting i tried and it doesn't matter if the cruise is set or not. interesting though it only does it between 7 and 7 3/4 pounds of boost. over or under and it didn't happen a single time. ideas?

Have you tried disconnecting the Edge & taking it for a spin? If you've got any kind of driveability problem while you have a chip/tuner/programmer, you want to disconnect it & see if the problem persists to eliminate the Edge, or see if it's actually the problem. If all's well without the Edge, you've found the problem. If it continues, your next step is to pull codes & try a contribution test.

allright, it's been awhile and i've been driving quite a bit. went into the settings and maxed out the low boost fuel adjustment on the chip. If it's not on the 120 hp setting and i'm not really pushing it the surge is gone. so... my guess is not enough fuel (maybe hpop pressure?) to support the chip in the higher settings. only diagnostics will tell. nough said for now.

Are you sure you're not defueling? Do you have a boost fooler?
