New Start Problem

Yesterday I let the engine cycle before starting and when the engine started to turn over it sounds like aluminum is clanging on something. I looked under and around the engine nothing is loose. I had my wife start the vehicle (03 7.3L Excursion) and it sound like it is coming from the back of the engine compartment. I think it has to do with the turbo??? This morning it was around 5°F when I started it and there was a hi pitch squeal from the starter, it happend twice then the engine started on the 3rd try. The two sounds are not coming from the same place so this is strange and I am not sure if it is related.

The first sound I describe only occurs at start up and then goes away. The excursion is my wifes and she says it has felt like it has the same amount of power as it use to. Anyone?

Both noises occur BEFORE it starts, correct? I would check bellhousing bolts and starter mount. I doubt it's the turbo seeing how it's before the engine has started.
