Hey Dirk, you replied while I was putting that response together...

So your saying if I can indeed fish out the pushrods then all may not be lost? You're saying it's worth it to get the head off as part of the "damage assessment" process then?

Pulling the driver side head is simple. Just have a buddy there to help lift it out. Don't make more work for yourself than you have to. You don't need to pull the A/C crap and whatever... Concentrate on the driver side. IF you pull the head and there is more damage, so be it. The head was going to come off any way. The engine will be a LOT easier to pull at that point.

I would be PISSED if I pulled my engine and didn't have to. That 7.3 is a pig. About 1000 lbs.

Oh, I pulled the AC compressor Pump and pedestal in order to get to the driver side valve cover bolts from the from of the engine. I couldn't get a socket on them all with that stuff still in there.

OK, here's my update...

I'm from Philadelphia, but near Atlanta right now. As luck would have it, I had my E-350 serviced by a pretty good diesel fleet mechanic shop here in Dec - Sike's Fleet Service. I spoke to one of the mechanics at Sike's Fleet Service and explained the situation to them. To my surprise he didn't seem too phased and said they could handle it. He suggested I bring it in on Monday morning and explain everything to the service manager.

I figure even if I pulled the head and find the crumpled pushrods, a full diag of the cam and cylinder is out of my reach- so it's going to have to go to the mechanic eventually for me to know it's properly repaired (fingers crossed).

I guess I'll have more info from the mechanic after they pull the engine and see the possible extent of this issue. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on everything I find out.

Would anyone care to venture a ballpark guess on the best/worst case bill for this? On second thought, maybe just best case... I think I already know the worst case answer

Thanks!

Please, to save a block, replace the rod...

EVERY single time I have seen a truck with both pushrods gone, the rod has been bent or broken. There is no where for the compression to go with the valves shut...

Did the exhaust sound different. Sound like it was missing.

This is starting to sound like my truck.

See post " f350 if it cant be fixed recycle it."

Curious to know if there is any similarities. I think it is the same cylinder as well

Do you know the build date of the vehicle, engine.
