Yesterday morning I went to start up my truck and it tried to crank over and then died. This happens every now and again but it has always started the second shot. This time I went to start it up again and NOTHING. Dash lights up. After going through some motions I replaced the solenoid and had the started tested. Passed. Brought the starter back and hooked everything back up. Tried to start the truck and it almost turned over but then died again. BUT THE STARTER KEPT RUNNING!!! I had to jump out and disconnect the NEG battery cables to get it to shut down. Any time I would tap the negative terminal with the cable the starter would start running again. I climbed under the truck and took the starter off again and reconnected everything. Tapped the neg terminal with the cable and the starter didn't run. SO I thought I had it figured out. I hooked the batteries back up, turn her over and she started up but the friggin starter kept running!!! What am I doing wrong? What should I be looking for? PLEASE HELP!!!

All Fixed
Eventually bought a new starter and the problem seems to have been solved.

Yeah, the relay on the starter itself probably went bad.
