7.3L turbo issues?
I have a 01 7.3L diesel. When I start the truck and and it is not at full operating temp, a loud noise comes out of the ehaust (exhaust is twice as load) at about 1800 rpm and it takes away a significant amount of power (drops down to about 1500 rpm). When I back off to idleing rpm it does not have this effect. It makes a squeak when u hear it drop out. I was thinking the waste gate is sticking but a mechanic that looked at it for me said it is moving freely. The funny part is when the engine is warmed up it does not have this effect, everything seems to be normal. I'm pretty certain it has something to do with the turbo but no 100% sure. Any ideas? and I believe there is no egr valve on this engine?

Thats normal depending on outside temps. Does that to warm up faster.

Yeah think of it as a butterfly valve (i think) type thing closing to warm the engine up faster. If you have a egt gauge you will notice it runs a little hotter when the truck is doing this.
