truck dies

This has happened three times now... two times I was leaving a dead stop and the truck hesitated around 10-15 mph and sounded like a carb with no fuel. The tach jumps from 1000- 2200 rpm and the SES light comes on. Then the truck is dead. The other time it was around 30 mph and it just died with the tach jumping around the same and the SES light on again. This has all happened in the last week and was under normal driving conditions.
2001, 7.3, auto, 172,000 miles, only exhaust - no other mods.
Thanks

If at all possible buy the ford or international cps not some aftermarket stuff, I thought I would save some money and buy the cheap one and it lasted about a week or two then it was shot. I've seen them brand new in the package on ebay for like 40 or 50 bucks which is a lot better than $180 at the dealer good luck
