potential new powerstroke owner

hey guys i am currently driving a cummins powered dodge. while i love the motor, the truck hasnt been the best in the world to me. anyways, i am currently looking at a 99 powerstroke with 135k on the ticker. my dad has a 99 with 320k on it. i guess the main question here is what are some of the common problems with these trucks and whether they are expensive repairs or not. Things such as fp, lp issues, glow plug issues and so forth. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Oh and by the way i do already own the greatest ford motor ever produced, the venerable 300I-6 with 355k on the ticker and it stills runs like the day it was made, best truck i ever had! I guess i am just a little partial to FORD.

The 300 I-6 is a bad azz motor, the 2nd best motor made by them is the 444 7.3L V-8 Power Stroke. Are you looking at a 99, or 99.5? They are pretty different. The only MAJOR issue with a 7.3L is the CPS, everything else is generally just gen maintience, or when something gets old, it quits working.

weeellll i guess no one is on here right now that knows any major differences. what i have found out on my own is that the turbos are different, build date for 99 is 12/8/98 and earlier, no cat on newer ones and different intercoolers.

My 00 7.3 didnt have a cat factory, and some OBS did have cats they were put on based on area they were sold.

The biggest thing different between the 99 and 99.5 is turbo, High Pressure oil pump, front rotors are larger I think. Its all for about 30hp difference but relates to much more when you start modding.

Differences between early99 and late99-03 trucks

This will help, not sure if there is pics, didnt look.......
