I have an 01 f350 with 200,000 miles on it. About 3 months ago i replaced the fuel pump, from parts store not OEM, and have had intermitent problems eversince. Starts fine even in 5 below, idles fine, when I get up to 45 or 50 miles an hour it acts like its running out of fuel. I stop and turn it off let the pump prime up and start it again and it continues to run rough sometimes it doesnt have the power to pull itself. I have replaced the filters and cleaned the filter socks in the tank, I use winterized fuel, and dont get a WIF light. Starting to really bug!!

Could be many things. Any codes? Checking fuel pressure would be a good start.

No SES light, so no codes. I check the fuel bowl after this happens and it is full.

Just because the bowl is full doesn't mean you have enough pressure.

Sounds to me like it's would be an filter problem, but you said you replaced all of 'em. Where they clogged when you replaced them??? You MIGHT have dislodged some junk from the filters with the new pump and the crap got into an injector or 8. I had clogged injectors in my Dodge Neon and it was doing the same thing years ago. It would idle fine but would cough when the duty cycle was higher. Took out all 4 injectors and they looked like crap. Replaced and fixed it. I know that the diesel injectors aren't cheap but I would try pulling them out and trying to clean them or take them somewhere for a cleaning/rebuild. Of course, this WILL be pretty expencive and MIGHT not be your problem.
It definatly sounds like a fuel delivery issue! |
