Tensioner or pulley??

Well yesterday was just an awful day. A multitude of crappy events seemed to happen. First the problem is that two weeks ago I found that my belt had lost a rib. I bought a new one and replaced it thinking it was just time because i've had the truck for 30,000+ miles and didn't know when it had been replaced before I bought it. Well yesterday while working I heard a slapping around kind of noise under the hood and I before I even opened it I was sure it was the belt as I had mistakingly failed to check the pulleys or tensioner before I put the new one on. Sure enough it was the belt shreddin itself up, taking out a whole lot more of the heat shield under the hood, and even snapping the handle off of my oil dipstick. I'm going to go out here in a few after it warms up outside and pull the belt off, but how will I know if it's a pully or the tensioner? Will I be able to feel play in whatever is failing? On top of all this, while I was pissed over missing that, my cell phone wouldn't work and I decided to throw it in disgust....it bounced off the dash, hit my windshield and cracked the son of a b. Then later in the day the Colts showed another dismal playoff performance and got an in house spanking by the steelers. And I didn't make near what I expected to make for the entire day leaving me very little cash to you use for whatever repairs I have to make.... Yeah...i'm PO'd

Nevermind, problem solved. See attached photos. You can see the gap highlighted by the arrows on the old one and the new one. I'm lucky the thing didn't fly apart on me while drivin!

WOW, talk about bad luck! I was happy with the game though........

I know a thing ot two about the chucking of a cell phone, we still have the Nextel Olympics every now and then.

Funny thing is no matter how hard I've thrown this phone it's held up, it's a little nicked up but it's darn near unbreakable. I've busted a lot of stinkin' phones too....guess I need to throw harder, only at something other than my dashboard......

That sucks about your windshield But i have to say thanks for the chuckle i got out of it!! That kinda stuff normally happens to me

Must be a nextel moto phone? I have made the same mistake over the last two days.....I mean the pulleys and tensioner all look good...I am going to get a new belt tensioner now and a belt again.

Trials only make us tougher. And sometimes poorer, wonder how much a windshield costs.
I just put a new water pump and belt on. Can't believe I did'nt ck the tensioner. Going to do that right now. Thanks for shareing.

I sold the truck, so I don't have to worry about the cost of replacing it

This is the first time I have not traded in my truck once it has been paid for........and the day after I sent Ford credit the pay off the tranny went 200x with a 9'2 Boss plow and pulling skid steer a lot of the time. I cant complain but it seems now like a bunch of little things are going. It is not just the parts it is being stranded not getting the job complete then running for parts then going back to get the rignt parts LOL. All this time I could have probably slammed another septic system in. I really am starting to wonder
