Tock Tock: Nervous for Nothing?
My 2000 F250 7.3 is making a strange but soft "tock tock tock tock" sound that's about 300 "tocks" per minute when the engine is at idle (about 600 - 700 RPM). the sound increases/decreases with RPM (not in volume though). Is that a normal sound for a 7.3, or is it indicative of a problem. It sounds like it's coming from the vacinity of the alternator or the at least from the drivers side engine bank. It starts easily and there is no particular smoking, leaking, excessive fuel consumption, etc. Cold or hot engine does not matter. Like I say, in all other respects it seems good.
