2 or 3 bolt starter?

anyone know off hand if my 2002 f350 has a two or three bolt starter? i can only see/feel 2 bolts but maybe there's a third hiding up there?

2 bolt starters are vertical. the 3rd is to the left. facing the starter pocket

just picked up a 3 bolt since i found some posts saying the 2 and 3 bolt starters are interchangeable.

yep, I did the same thing. however, MAKE ABSOUTELY SURE THE SNOUT OF THE STARTER is the same.
I spit a 2 bolt out of mine, decided to run a 3 bolt.
I slapped it in, and it worked great for a minute. then it started grinding.
there are 2 version of the 2 bolts and 1 version of the 3.
people here say they work, I don't know mabe I had bad luck.
but I just replaced the 3 bolt with a 2 bolt and the snouts are very different.

yeah i'll be sure to do a 3d facial recognition, reverse osmosis, converging bilateral comparison of them two ****s before i put the new one in. i'm hoping this solves a long nagging issue of no crank issues...
