Yeah that's true. Ford wanted $8750 for the motor and $3550 for labor. We are going to get in the engine next weekend and see how it looks. Hopefully we can rebuild it. Any advice as to a good rebuild kit, or anything else would be appreciated.

Some good news anyways is my truck isn't dying in the snow we've been having since the cps was replaced last week.

Ford sells an awesome rebuild kit. Take you block to the machine shop and find out how much they need to bore it then order the kit with the right sized pistons. The kit has everything you would need. Pistons, bearing, gaskets.

Thanks for the info. Are there any good mods that I should look into doing since we are going to have the truck in the shop anyways? Anyone's input would be helpful. I've been wanting to start upgrading my truck but with the recent problems I didn't want to put any money into it until it was running good.

Jon is right, Ford makes a very complete rebuild kit!

Your engine should be completely rebuildable! AND there is no reason it can't be done for under about $2500..

I just removed my engine a few weeks ago for the same reason, low compression in one cylinder (#3).. I pulled it apart and this is what I found

Dont these engines have cylinder sleeves you can replace instead of boring them out? Wouldn't that be a better way to go because boring would make the cylinder wall thinner and more prone to cavitation?

I'm not sure, but my question is wouldn't you get more power by boring them out?

What all could I get for around 2500? And what are some things that I should probably replace while we're in there?

Considering the ford rebuild kit is over $1000 and the machine work is going to be about $1000, not much.
