your motor could be dusted. do you change your air filter frequently? let them do the turbo and see what happens before you go making a big decision. hope the guy was just blowin smoke up your butt and its ok.

My 1999 f 350 has 840,000mile almost a million mile
Im on the second motor I have 440,000 miles on this one.
I just had a problem with my truck it die when I was in town took
it to the shop they said it was the high pressure oil pump.
they wanted 1400$ to fix it.
so I had it towed home.
I was looking for one on ebay had a bid war with one got up to
220$ didnt go go any higher
Got it in the garage today and found I had a bad wire harness
I took off the harness to the glow plugs and found one side was burnt
\I would like to tell everyone check this first////////////

Well they were supposed to warranty the turbo again and now they are saying the problem is in the motor and that the turbo is fine. If my turbo was good and the motor was still having it's problems wouldn't the turbo still get more than 11 psi boost?

What do you mean dusted? I change the air filter frequently. When I first bought it last year the filter was nasty but other than that I keep it clean. He said it could be o rings causing the lost pressure in the cylinders and that would seem like an easier change than a motor swap?

I would go somewhere else and get a second opinion. I don't trust dealerships.

Its possible that the cyls are dusted. Mileage doesnt have much to do with it. I've seen them take a dump well under 100,000. We have an '02 in the shop right now with 160,000 on it. 8 cracked pistons. One of the 8 has a hole right thru the middle big enough to put a pencil thru. A compression test is pretty cut and dry. Is the motor shot? No, unless the cyl wall is distroyed it can be bored and overhauled. A good overhaul is gonna run you around $5-7000.

I've found remanufactured 7.3's for around $5K with 2 year warranty unlimited mileage. Wouldn't I just be better off replacing the motor than overhauling it?

Just depends. You have to figure in labor too. Is that a complete turn key motor for $5k?
