2000 f350 7.3l rough idle help

A problem recently started with my 7.3l. I realize that whenever my S.E.S light goes out my engine has an erratic idle. Like it's surging or similar to me revving the engine. When the light comes on it runs normal. I haven't replaced anything I just need an idea where to start at. I try to pull codes off of the ses light and no codes can be found. Any help would be appreciated.

I stopped by my local autozone and had them put it on their scanner. The associate ran it twice and no codes. I just bought the truck and it originally had smokestacks on it. I'm thinking when they installed them they might have eliminated both o2 sensors.

Whoa,,, Isaac, O2 Sensors?? You know we don't have those - right?

Next thing is, you could have the smartest guy in the world at AutoZone but, they don't have the equipment to retrieve codes from our trucks (well, I guess if you the Smartest guy he'd know that...)

So, I agree with Peter (above), no sense guessing what's wrong, the PCM knows what it is. Find someplace with a professional scanner to properly scan your computer and find out what it is that's doing that to you.

I'm new to the diesel world of trucks. I will find me a qualified diesel mechanic and see if he can pull the codes.
