7.3 boost leak noise low boost

Looked at an 01 today, drove it etc for a friend. He said he was driving it and said it made a loud bang. Lost alot of power and its weak ever since. I drove it, anything above 12lbs it would make a strange whine. Almost sounds like a 6.0 turbo. Truck is stock with a program. I pumped up the system, only air i could hear was behind the turbo but couldn't locate it. Noticed soot around the donuts. Question is has anyone heard a donut leak that makes a whine sound or is it a housing leak. Any input would be great thanks.

Probably tore or blew off a boot. The whine sound typically points to one of the boots from the spider to the plenum.

Got turbo off just now. Donuts are totally shot but I'll visually inspect the boots tomorrow and see what I see. Thanks for responding
