stupid question...

hey guys. on my girl friends e99 we are having a hard time starting it. for a while you would turn the key, the starter solenoid would click once, and then it would whip over. then for a while you would turn the key, it would click once, and if you held the key to crank for a while longer it would finally whip over...so I replaced the starter. same exact thing. no difference. so I got irritated and tapped the starter, thinking maybe I had gotten a bad one. thing whips right over and hadn't had a problem until last week. back to square one. same symptoms and the only way to get it to crank is to have someone turn the key while I tap the starter or power wire to the starter. im thinking its the battery cables...all the connections are tight and clean..before I throw 200$ at the thing I wanted to verify with you guys.

alright guys...I replaced the positive battery cables shortly after starting this thread...started great every day until sunday....am I missing something here? negative cables now?

Ground would be my first thought.
And stupid would be throwing parts at the thing in hopes of eventually solving the problem instead of asking a question so you can solve your problem without wasting money.

thanks for the response. I am going to crawl under it and make sure its not something easy like loose starter bolts. the positive cables were terribly hacked apart and the negative cables aren't much better....of course it has to be pouring out and I have a dirt swamp driveway lol

your on the right track, or of not your fixing potential issues

also it could be a bad starter even though it's new...

also how old the batteries? could be them on the verge or crapping out.

What this nation needs is cleaner thoughts and dirtier fingernails...

i replaced the batteries when we first got the truck. the alternator crapped out and we limped it home barely with headlights or a radio. lol. those cant be older than a year or so? napa gold batteries. we got the truck for a steal so this stuff, while annoying is well worth the headache
