7.3 runs then dies and wont sart back up

I have a 2000 7.3 with 267,000 and a t and s chip in it. All of the sudden it died on me. I limped it home and replaced the lift pump because I had ne fuel in the bowl, new filters and it will run for how ever long it feels like sometimes 20 minutes sometimes longer. Clean oil and I need help any suggestions.

I would set it to stock tune take the chip out and go from there before you replace a bunch of stuff...seems like ive read a lot of guys have trouble and it ends up being a chip that's malfunctioning

Always remove chip first.

next step

that is my next step this problem has me pulling my hair out just because I can never tell how long she is going to run for this time. When it dirs. it sounds like someone put gas in it and yes I did drain the tank just to check. Thank for the advose I keep you posted.

well somehow my truck will not run without the chip. I did not install it I purchased it this way. plan b. I am thinking maybe a bad fuel pressure regulator????

Wait, why go to the FPR because no chip means no start? Makes no sense.

No chip, with key on, engine off, do you get the wait to start light?

should have clarified was trying stock chip. yes wait to start comes on and truck runs fine for as long as it want to then dies and will not restart. 10 m in sometimes an hour or so. Replaced cps just in case and am doing the fuel reg when it warms up a little. New filters all the way around and clean oil.

Anymore than this is just guessing.
It'd be really nice to monitor what codes come up and data log to see what happens when it dies as far as high pressure oil goes.
Possibly clogged fuel tank.

So when you take the chip out and have just the PCM, the truck will not run at all?

yes a lot of guessing. I am pulling no codes at all I have a hand held reader and auto ingenuity on a lap top for work. I have not gone live with it yet because I can never predict where I am going to break down. I was thinking about dropping the tank just to make sure. with 267,000 I figured the fuel pres reg was just a good idea anyway . I am pulling my hair out for the moment. when it runs it runs great. Thank for the input I will keep up the posts.

Found it

Thanks for all the suggestions but I have found the problem. At some point in the trucks history the pickup tubes came out and someone gutted an old gas burning pump to install as a replacement. When I pulled it out I found the small tube filters inside of the housing to be clogged full of hay. Also the vent tubes had been disconnected. Since I haul hay for a few friends I am not sure if I introduced the hay or if it was just there and finally got clogged up. running like a champ now. The only issue is it is a little hard to start I am going to change the oil just for gp. thanks again for the support.
