Need some help big time.

So this morning I go out and start up the truck (2001 7.3L) to let it get warm. Its not my daily driver anymore and I use it primarily as a hunting/snowplowing truck. So anyway, I start it up. Ran just fine, a little bit of lope which has been common for a few seconds in the winter, but smoothed right out. I go back in the house to do a few things, return to the truck hop and hop in, throw it in drive and bam, service engine light kicks on and the truck bogs down and starts running like garbage. So I shut it down and start it back up. Cranks fine and runs fine for about a second, maybe two seconds and goes right back to running like garbage. Sometimes while I let it idle the service engine light will go out, it will start running normal and then go right back to running like crap. Also to note, the glow plug relay gets super hot so I know that is toasted, I am going to replace that in the morning along with a cps sensor in hopes that the cps may resolve my issues.

I know this forum is a gold mine of info so anything you guys can throw my way would be greatly appreciated. Do you think I'm headed down the right road with the cps? What else could be the problem?

That's another thing I was thinking about. Would it likely be something that got knocked loose or possibly need to replace the whole thing

UVCH harnesses are 40 bucks each from dieselorings, motorcraft of course.

im guessing you have a faulty icp sensor.

pull the connector and check for oil coming through.
old oil makes for harder starts and low oil as well.

get a western glow plug relay or stancor/white rodgers instead of stock

and the cps is always good to change, its easy and cheap.

Jelling shouldn't be an issue. While it gets cold here it doesn't get crazy cold and the gas stations mix the fuel (usually). I also treat my fuel. Plus I opened up the bowl to check and no issues there. The thing that is stumping me is that I would let it idle and then all of a sudden it would go back to running smooth. As soon as I pressed the pedal it would go back to running like crap.

Yep. Check ICP plug for possible oil inside it.

still need some help

ok guys heres what I did today. New CPS, New Glow Plug Relay, and new fuel filter just to be on the safe side. I am getting significant fuel pressure (opened up the bowl valve and ran the pump with positive results) Trying to upload a video now and maybe you can help me. Also I should note that the ICP sensor plug didn't have any visible oil in it.

Pull your fuel filter back out and check the black stem in the center of the bowl. I've seen this stick closed once causing a similar issue. Take a small nut driver and push down on the center of that stem, there is a spring/valve in there that has gotten stuck closed before where it will still give you pressure in the bowl but really restrict fuel getting to the heads.
