Do you know the condition of the injector o-rings? Might be time for a new set.
Also check the turbo compressor for any sort of excessive play. a little is fine, but not much.
I had an intermittent smoke problem, too. It went away after I replaced the injector o-rings (they were falling apart as I pulled the injectors). But it was white/grey smoke just like you said.
If you ever think something I post is ridiculous or uneducated, just remember that I probably learned it from here.
