Smoke from down pipe area

Lately my truck has been ungodly fumey.... if thats a word. The cab seemed like it was getting straight exhaust blown into it. I shrugged it off and thought nothing of it until my friend said that he saw black smoke coming out from under the engine. His exact words were "you have an exhaust leak". Sure enough, when i had him get in the truck and rev it to about 2k rpm black smoke shot straight down from what looked like the down pipe. Is that a bad seal between the turbo and the down pipe? Bad turbo? I haven't really had a chance to look at it yet, but with that being said i don't really know what to look for. Im trying to avoid taking it to a shop and paying someone to fix it if its something I can handle. Thanks for the input.

The nice thing about a diesel exhaust leak is, it leaves soot behind. With the engine off, maybe as it gets a little dark out so it's easy to see, look all around the Turbo & Firewall with a good flashlight. The Downpipe, the Up pipes in the back and an the Manifolds, find it!

Black soot = Leak

More than likely its the donut gaskets where the up pipes go into turbo housing
