Turbo lag

Hey guys, my turbo seems to lag pretty bad. I don't have gauges yet, so I don't really know what pressures I have at what rpms, but my buttometer tells me I really have no boost until about 2,000 rpm. I have trouble darting out into traffic in 1st gear. I live near Denver at over 5,000' in altitude. I don't know how much lag stock trucks have, so I'm not sure if the altitude is a problem for my truck or if they are just that way. I have over 244,000 miles, and the injectors may be originals. I imagine replacing or upgrading the injectors may help me, but I can't afford that right now. I also can't afford head gaskets, so I really don't want to increase boost pressure at all. Can anyone recommend any turbo mods that will help it spool at lower rpms and high altitude? I'm thinking a different turbine housing or wheel?

The 7.3 is a slug without a tune. Before you start throwing parts at it you need to have it scanned and checked out.

Thanks. I was planning on getting a TS 6 position chip sometime in the future, think that may help?

Oh he'll yeah I just put one on my 7.3. First things first tho, get a monitor and or gauges and get it checked out to make sure everything is up to par bride any modding takes place. Could have a weak hpop as well.

Thanks. Gauges are definitely my next step. I want to know all my baseline pressures and temps before I start messing with things. Since I have a manual trans, I'll be getting an HPOP gauge instead of trans temp, so I'll be able to see if that's an issue for me. Thanks again!
