Rough Idle & Pop

Truck started idling real rough about a half block from my house the other night. I limped into the driveway and shut it off. It almost died several times on its own.

I immediately thought it might be a fuel issue. The next day I drained the fuel filter, flushed it for a few seconds then pulled the filter out. Filter was changed less that 400 miles ago and looked to be ok so I put it back in. After the fuel flush the truck runs much better, idles normal but I get an occasional Pop only heard it once or twice and what sounds like some scratching.... Thats as good as I can do to describe it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Quick report back after dropping my truck at the local shop

Turns out that my water pump is going. The Mechanic immediately noticed some metal shavings around it on the block and below. This also would explain the noises I was hearing after I cleaned out the rough idle/fuel issue.

I guess it was just coincidence that these two items started at about the same time.

See how it runs once the water pump is replaced.

Thanks!
