whats wrong with my truck.

well i was towing a jeep on a car hauler to go wheelin and my buddy with a chevy 2500 p/u with a 6.0 gas motor can was hauling the same load. his gas truck can kick my butt easily. my psd was getting barely 10mpg and i had no power in the hills. in the hills the gasser would blow right by me. ive only had this truck for a week and its my first diesel too.

this time i was hauling one jeep, the plan is to haul two jeeps on a double trailer but there is no way this ballless wounder could do it. i have another friend who has a cummins and its wayyyyyyy better than mine.the cummins will **** and get in the hills with two jeeps behing it. it will blow the gas truck away.mine loses speed on small hills. my truck only has 80k on it and runs good unloaded but i still only get 10mpg. where do i start and what to check. i am a certified master mechanic but have NEVER waorked on a diesel before. i have a whole shop at my disposal with a modis scan tool too.

is this completely normal or somthing wrong?

sorry if im an idiot but im real disapointed and could use some advice.

Do you have gauges? Are you pushing any boost at all?

no boost gauge yet. i just bought the truck. i know there is boost but dont know how much. you can hear the turbo spool and it pulls hard when unloaded but when loaded it is a dog. will a scan tool show boost pressure?

modis will tell you. the data is manifold guage pressure i think. check it for codes while you are there thats the biggest help. you should be right there with the cummins.

if that truck ran right that gas 6.0 would not even think about keeping up with you on a hill.pull codes and run the truck with the data stream.that will give you boost and other #s also

I towed a 15,000 lbs trailer at 75 and 70 on hills not giving it more than half throttle maybe. I also got 14 mpg doing that and 19 unloaded on the freeway

somthing is wrong, my truck will get 20 to 22 mpg unloaded sounds like you might have a boost leak or maybe a fuel problem.i assume it has a new fuel filter.i have seen plugged fuel filters make a truck barley move.if it does you need to also check fuel pressure.but i am betting on boost leak.

My suggestion is to get a set of gauges and a chip or programmer. The programmer will give you codes.
