if idm's are interchangable why do reman ask

if idms are interchangable 99-03 why do the remans on ebay ask auto stick , vin , mileage etc. the reason i ask is i have p1670 and if i had a known good idm i would just swap it. I found one on CL for 120.00 but was sure if interchangable Thanks. I have AE but just learning it, could find an idm test

Because they dont have a cure all chart that states what parts are interchangable across every vehicle, they just go by part number. Its just like at autozone they ask you every little question even though you know what part you need. Just because its interchangeable doesnt mean its the same part number

Its because they have no clue what your talking about and they can only do what the computer at their desk tells them.

I.E. buddy goes into autozone and asks for some recharge cleaning fluid/oil for his K&N air filter. Dude at the counter asks, "Year, make, and model please?"

Buddy, "You don't need that info"

Clerk, "Year, make, model please"

Buddy gives him the info.

Clerk, "Mmmm, I can't seem to find that for your car sir."
