!!!HELP!!! NO DRIVER SIDE INJECTORS

So I started my truck up today to go to lunch and it would barley stay running. Tried to take it around the parking lot and it would die. Ran codes and got P1316, looked into it further found that all of my driver side exhaust manifold were at ambient temp while the passenger side heated up to operating temperature. Ripped out the valve cover in the middle of the parking lot noticed the wire harness underneath was a little loose so I did the quarter trick online that I found to keep everything tight. Put everything back together and still nothing. WHATS GOING ON??

Is it possible I fried some of those wires in there and need a new harness??

HELP PLEASE I need my truck.

Thanks, Josh

Either the IDM has gone bad, or the connector is not "connecting" (despite being locked securely back in) because the pins are now burned.

Did you look into the connector and examine the pins before you plugged it back in?

At this point, I'd be leaning towards an IDM as the most likely problem (they have a poor seal and often get water inside that can kill the output to one, or both sides). You could measure the resistance going to the injectors, in both sides, as a comparison before you invested in an IDM. Or, alternatively, try to "borrow" one as a test (for functioning purposes, they're all the same....)

The pins look fine inside but just did some examining on the connector that goes into the valve cover and it is all frayed and wires exposed. I wanted to do new glow plugs anyway so I just picked up the new harness and pigtail and will do that this weekend.

Your IDM may be fried as well. Mine did the same thing on passenger side where engine harness plugs into vc gasket. The insulation on the wires deteriorated and when they touched took out the IDM. New IDM and connector and we're good to go.

If the IDM was bad wouldn't both sides not be firing? My truck still runs on the passenger side. Well I already got the new improved gasket and the pigtail so I will put those in hopefully that will do the trick. If not I will have to track down a IDM.

No, a bad IDM might well just be bad on one side only...

2001 2002 FORD 7.3L DIESEL MODULE XC3F AB IDM 120 on eBay!

To cheap?

Is there a way to test the IDM to tell if it is bad? I would like to get one ordered before Saturday afternoon when I am done putting the valve covers back on.

Or anyone know the correct part number?

I donno Even cheaper? -> Ford 7 3L Diesel Powerstroke Injector Driver Module IDM Factory Rebiult | eBay

The test for a bad IDM (at least the only one I know...) is a quick swap. That's why I suggested the "borrow" if you know anyone else with a 7.3 because it's a quick & easy thing to do. That's why I have a spare!

Who ever sells you a new one will know the right P/N I hope. As I said, there's Little difference between them and Anyone of them will function...

All fixed! New Dorman harness/gasket installed, no idm needed. Installed all new glow plugs. Even found one glow plug, the connector wire was burnt through.

Thanks for all the help guys!
