Key out Battery light and theft light

So after driving the Excursion to and from D.C. yesterday (ran great) I tried to move it after I got home. The battery light is on with the key out of the ignition. In addition, when you turn the key the light goes off and the theft light blinks and it won't start. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I was thinking that it might be the alternator or something with the ignition switch.

Found the problem. It was a shorted alternator plug harness, which bypassed the alternator diode. Easy way to check was to remove the fuse.
