Power problems Turbo or Injectors? I need help
I have a 97 PSD with 200k miles on it. It was working fine with no problems, until about a week ago and I started having power problems. It starts normally and smokes a little, especially when it starts to get really really cold out, but it was alwys dependable. When I would start to drive is when it got problems. Sometimes the truck starts will barely accelerate and basically just idle, no matter how much I step on the throttle. Eventually it would start to take off a little bit, but didn't get any boost at all.
Other times, like this morning, it accelerated fine, until I got to 2000 rpm (I could still feel a litle boost here), then it just stayed there, I couldn't get any faster (3rd gear.) When I shifted to fourth it continued accelerating no problem whatsoever, until it hit 2000 and then it cruised there until I shifted to fifth and it went with no problem. It doesn't do this all the time though. I had other acelerations this morning, and it started out fine and would get me right up to 3000 no problem with tons of boost.
Both of this are a very frequent and intermittent problem. I can have a start out where I get boost until I'm in a gear, and then just that one gear will take forever to get to the sift point in. If after during cruising it starts to loose power, when I bring it down to an idle in neutral, it will run really rough and start shaking, but that is only right after it's had a hard time accelerating.
My millage has gone down a little bit since this problem has started. I can also sometimes hear a noise that sounds like it's from the turbo, but it doesn't seem like it's a good noise either. I normally run high blends of bio. I still run like a 40 in 25 temps, and sometimes throw in a gallon or two of straight veggie oil.
By looking at some other peoples threads, it sounds like it's either a waste gate problem, or an injector problem. I don't know if the high blend of bio could be causing any problems, and I need to get this fixed asap. I hope somebody can help me with where to look and what to look for.
Thanks in advance
