Exclamation 7.3 starting problem

hey yall.. I was hoping yall could help me out. i got a 02 f250 with a 7.3 and its runs perfect but every once and awhile ill kill it and go into the store or whatever. . When i try to start it it will not start. It will crank strong but no fire... like it was starving for fuel... but i figured if that was the case then why would i not have problems out on the road... thanks

It could be the cam position sensor going out. Does the tach move when you crank on it? If the tach doesn't move you need a CPS. You could try a new fuel filter as well. Ford issued a recall on the CPS so you could call your local dealer and ask them if they will cover your truck.

I have heard that a no start only when hot can be caused by the IPR valve, I think, if it were me, I would try my spare cam sensor first and then take a look at the IPR (injector pressure regulator).

I keep a spare CPS anyways, heck for $20 why not keep a spare, for the 5 minutes it takes to change it I say swap it if there is any doubt.

Also you probably can replace the IPR O-rings much cheaper than you can replace the IPR.
