Bad MPG,Help Please

I have a 2001 F-250 with about 144,XXX miles, auto, just got 4 in magnaflow exhaust. I have 285/70/17 terra grapplers. I'm getting about 11.5 mpg. Shouldnt i be around 14-16 mpg? I plan on getting a edge programmer and afe stage 2 intake, but i wont better mpg results before i do any more mods. I have had a history of trouble with cold starts and still do, it will only start with the block heater below 50 degrees. I think maybe a glow plug or relay is the prob there. Any ideas please, 11.5 mpg isn't gonna cut it

replace the o rings on the injectors and test the glow plug system (glow plugs only help with starting....im guessing all of your problems are related to the o rings though..)

I have 97 and ur saying O rings for injectors would help my MPG? Can it be done in one day by someone with a chiltons? And how much do O rings cost?

this gets complicated.....

injector o rings on anything 97 or newer are a gut call..there is no test.....

yes...it can help both starting and MPG if they are a problem. when both are a problem..it really raises flaggs to someone who has seen it.

it can be done in a day by almost anyone.....BUT there is a very....very specific process that must be followed when removing the injectors or the cyclenders will be filled with oil and they will hydrolock. It isnt complicated but you must follow the procedure to a tee...

your milage should be 13-19 unloaded depending on your truck and how you use your right foot...

nice bumper Looie. I hadn't heard of the O ring and MPGs. I may give it a try in the Spring. Any others out there with 2cents. thanks

actually the o rings dont cause the milage problem....the copper crush washer at the tip of the injector does...the o rings cause the hard start....

The injector o ring kits come with all of this so thats why its all refered to as th injector o rings....


the kits are like 25-30 bucks per injector at the dealer i think..but dont quote me on that...

My truck got 16mpg highway before i lifted it so I know nothings wrong with my truck. I was just thinking of a weekend project. but if it aint broke dont fix it
