Fuel Pump Maybe???
I have a 97 3/4 stroke 4x4 and have been having issues with it surging while I am driving, when it first started it would only do it when it was cold out, even after letting her warm up. Now it is getting bad and is affecting my starts, some times she almost wont start and I am wonder if it is my fuel pump. She has 164K and as far as I know the only things that arent origainal are those I have changed and the fuel pump isnt one of them. I am going to purchase a fuel pump tomorrow and see if that helps, even if it don't im sure she could use it. I know its not the CPS because I just changed that out a few months back when she went down on me. Is there anything else that it could be? I don't have gauges <i know i need em bad>. I just would like to know yall's thoughts. Oh and do any of yall wanna change her rear main seal for me? lol even my brother refuses to help me lol

I'd suggest fuel filters, but I'm not sure. Here's a
for ya.

Test your fuel pressure on the schrader valve, you should have about 40 at idle. After the pain I went through changing my pump and finding it wasnt the problem, I would hold off before you change it. Fuel filter, and FPR spring could also be causes. But def check your fuel pressure before you start changing parts.

well wednesday I changed out the fuel pump and shes running great. I will tell you that it woulda been alot simplier if my brother woulda stayed out of it. I had everything undone except for the back bolt, the one thats almost impossible to get to, but you can.... well my brilliant ford hating brother decided he can't get it and starts taking my turbo and everything else on the back top of the engine. After two hours of him pulling stuff <unsucessful> and me telling him its not needed, he ends up getting the bolt off without removing the turbo lol. So needless to say, what woulda been well under a 2 hour project ended up taking 4 and a half lol. But the truck is running great, nice and strong and no pulsing in the past two days, so it seemed to fix the problem. So if any of yall decided to tackle this, all you need is a pair of channel locks to remove the back bolt.
