96 stall time to time

A friend of my has a 96 powerstroke that stalls from time them starts back up and runs fine for a few days and does it again. Most of the time it is at low speeds. Any idea what could be the problem thanks in advance.

its possible to have a cam sensor goin out , also make sure the maintenance is up to par and oil is full, if he can get codes pulled that would be a good idea
