exhaust noise "hiss"

If I start the truck and just let it idle, in a short time it will have a sound at the exhaust like compressed air is being blown through it. If I rev it up it will quit. Is this a waste gate issue? Carbon on the valve seat? There is a noise that sounds like boost being bled off under full throttle. Any ideas? I have the stock Garrett turbo and waste gate. 77 K on my 2003. Thanks

the exhaust valve just worming up the truck not a big deal and if u tap the brakes it will do the same thing

Is this the same valve a lot of folks disconnect? EBPS????

yep, same one - I disconnected mine but I think I'm just gona hook a toggle switch to it to use as a brake

How can i tell if this EBPS is working the way it should?

I think it's only supposed to work when it's cold and at idle the truck will go into fast idle mode and the valve will kick in... mine was retarded though, it did as described, but would also kick in while driving killing power and wouldn't let the turbo spool up - was really annoying.

In order for it to work as a break don't you have to be able to lock your torque converter????

mine does it at about 1200 rpm for just a quick second in drive then shuts off. Its kind of funny though, the neighbors in the morning come out to see whats going on when I'm warming my truck up... the straight pipe and the hiss, it's so loud but funny.

yes you do have to do the TC lockup mod also to use the EBPV as a brake

Locks up the TCC and actuates the EBPS. you select the speeds at which it lock and unlocks.
