glow plugs?

I've got an early 99 F250 2wd 7.3PSD. I have almost 270,000 miles on the truck. It's all stock with the exception of an open air filter and a straight pipe. The temp dropped down below 20 the other night so I plugged my truck in. It coughed and sputtered and puffed white smoke when I cranked it over. I'm certain that I have a glow plug issue but I'm not sure how to check which and how many glow plugs are bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do a search for glow plugs. There is a lot of info already posted. If you have the original glow plugs and grp, I'd replace them if it were my truck.
