ae injector

i have a 2000 f350 7.3 and #8 wasn't firing. the injectors were AD and i heard that #8 was an AE so i ordered an AE injector and i took the valve cover off on the passenger side and all 4 were AD. so i replaced the Ad injector with the rebuilt AE one. i started it up this morning and it sounds like its knocking at idle from the #8 cyl. i was wondering if this was caused by replafced the Ad inj with an AE

also after i changed the injector the check engine light came on. i don't have a scanner right now to check what the code is.

I think that the AE came into use in 2001 in the number 8 hole. when you installed the injector did you pull the glow plug and turn the engine over (set up to not start) first to get the oil out of the cylinder so not to hydro lock the motor.

how long did you drive it after you replaced the injector?

yes i pulled the glow plug than cranked it over 7-8 times. i just did the injector last night. i let it idle to warm up than i bumped the idle to about 1500 for 10-15 min than this morning i let it idle and high idle for a couple of min than drove it around only about 3-4 miles. is there a huge difference in the way the ae and ad inj fires or the timing?

I would take it out and drive it around to remove air in the system. Check your oil level before you leave.

i ended up taking the AE injector out and throwing an AD in and it runs better now but the SES light is still on. i went to advance and tried one of their cheap scanners and it wasn't able to pull any codes. the SES light is only on when its running its not on when the key is on but not running.

where are you located ? if we knew someone might know a good shop to help out.
